Scout Baseball Questions
Introduction
Playing Scout Baseball makes for a great activity that also teaches Scout Skills. It can be an inter-patrol game or part of the Skills instruction. There are multiple ways to play, but here is the simplest way to play that is a lot of fun and easy to run.

The Set Up
Setting up scout baseball requires a 4 base playing area. There is no stealing or running required so this is easy to do inside or out. You will need a “Pitcher” that is neutral and not in any patrol. The SPL or even an Assistant Scoutmaster works well. You also will need an “Umpire” to settle any disputes. While some questions are True or False, others may need to be interpreted to tell the person to “Take your base” or “You’re out!” You will need two teams, best if you have at least five on a team. If you have more than two teams, you can play multiple games at once. The teams create a “batting” order that which they will answer questions.

The Rules
Each player must bat (answer the question) in the order as decided. They can choose if they want a Single, Double, Triple, or Home run question. In general, the questions get harder based on the number of bases assigned. There is one pitch (question) per batter. They either get it right and take the number of bases the question was assigned or they get an out.
The batter may ask for it to read once more, but a third time is considered a swing and a miss and the batter is out. Play continues until the team gets 3 outs, then the opposing teams get an at-bat. The umpire resolves any disputes and keeps track of outs, runs, and innings. The game ends after a set number of innings or times.
The Play
Teams draw for who goes first. The first batter comes to the plate. The pitcher announces the category if the game is using more than one. The umpire asks “What kind of pitch do you want? Single, double, triple, or home run?” The pitcher reads the question from the list. The batter answers the question. The pitcher reads the answer. The umpire calls the play as your ou if the player got it wrong or takes your Base(s) if the batter got the answer correctly.
If you are playing for the first time, the umpire can explain the rules and the basic strategy. Which question is good to ask when and how the lineup impacts the results are two examples. Or not, it can be a great learning experience either way.
