What is a Scout Patrol?

Scout Patrol

Scout Patrol is a method used by the Boy Scouts of America to organize their members. To learn what Scout Patrol is let’s start to break it down. First, a group of Boy Scouts as a whole is called a Troop. The troop can then be split down farther into smaller units called Patrols. Patrols are made up of six to eight Scouts and they are led by the Patrol Scout leader.

The Scout Patrol method is widely used at Boy Scout-related activities or events. These can include things such as campouts or training courses. The idea is that these Scout Patrols work together as a team to develop skills and responsibilities amongst themselves. It allows the Scouts to learn how to work as part of a team to distribute tasks and work towards shared goals.

There are two main groups of Scout Patrols these are mixed ages and the most common same age. When Scout Patrols are categorized as the same age group they can be further subcategorized based on New Scouts, Regular Scouts, and Older Scouts.

Scout patrol works for the Boy Scouts because it teaches Scouts how to work with each other to problem solve, communicate, and delegate tasks. By learning these skills Scouts can learn and grow as individuals. This will allow them to be strong members of their units and better leaders.
