Sun protection! Long hikes expose the top of your forearms to the full sun. Even a slight sunburn early in the week will put a dent in your adventure.
Polyester will dry
Almost all Philmont treks order wicking shirts. Wicking shirts go by many names: technical, performance, wicking or micro fiber polyester. When viewing stock designs keep in mind the prices are for 100% cotton, wicking shirts cost a bit extra.
Beware thorns and burs!
Snags are the sworn enemy of wicking shirts!
Almost anything will pull loops out of the fabric. It’s a painful price to pay for the performance benefits of wicking shirts. It’s unlikely all of your shirts will survive the trip. Order extras so the scouts can have a souvenir shirt.
Mixing Garments
You can mix both types of popular shirts in your order to get better price breaks. You can mix wicking and none wicking as well. Include a Hooded sweatshirt if you’d like!
Garment colors
We highly recommend White, pale yellow, light blue, light pink, sand or other light colors for your Philmont trek. It’s hot, and those colors will make a huge difference.Decoration method
If you go for a light-colored shirt, especially white, you can use the Sublimation Decoration method to customize it! This method is much lighter and more breathable than other methods.Sublimation is perfect for Philmont apparel, where maintaining breathability is essential! Sublimation doesn’t feel like anything on the shirt – it’s like it’s not even there! And it’s really tough, too – the design won’t chip off or get ruined by rubbing, like when hiking with a backpack. You can wash it as many times as you want without any problems. Just make sure you don’t dry it at high temperatures, or it could fade a little over time.
